Cloud gaming is gaming remotely, with gameplay hosted in a local data centre and streamed back to the user via high-speed internet, allowing you to convert any old PC, laptop, tablet, Mac, or even phone into the high-powered gaming PC of your dreams!

How does cloud gaming work?

Similar to streaming Netflix, the gaming experience is accessed remotely, allowing high-performance gaming on any device with minimal hardware requirements.

Connecting to one of our high-powered gaming Rigs allows you to access its full gaming potential and enjoy games at their best without turning your PC thermonuclear.

Cloud gaming vs. online gaming

With online gaming, the gaming experience is processed by the hardware in your home. Cloud gaming is processed by servers in a data centre, with a video feed of the game streamed back to you, wherever you are on whatever device you are using. You can, however, use cloud gaming to enjoy online gaming, such as playing Fortnite on the go.

Is cloud gaming a big deal?

Gaming can be an expensive hobby, with consoles and power-packed gaming PCs costing into the thousands, with regular upgrades and new game costs adding regular wallet-hitting purchases.

Cloud gaming significantly reduces these hardware costs to the user. Accessories and peripherals are still required, but expensive, high-performance computing hardware will no longer be necessary. With cloud gaming, game updates also become a thing of the past!

Fantastic news for many as updates have gotten progressively larger (some updates clocking in at over 100GB!). You don’t even need to have a game installed on your device to enjoy it. You just need to have it in one of the libraries linked with your GeForce NOW Powered by CloudGG account.

GeForce NOW Powered by Pentanet

GeForce NOW Powered by Pentanet is our very own premiere cloud gaming platform in the land down under, operated by Pentanet in an exclusive alliance partnership with the global technology behemoth NVIDIA. Since its launch in Australia, it has seen astronomical success and has become the ultimate solution for anyone who wants to enjoy gaming at its best without a pricey PC.

Internet speed will be crucial

One thing is for certain: cloud gaming requires a fast, stable internet connection, with latency and video quality directly determined by the speed at which your internet connection can feed your game back to you from the data centre. Thankfully, if you’re in Perth, we’re well-equipped to help you on that front!

How fast are we talking here?

GeForce NOW requires at least 15Mbps for 720p at 60 FPS and 25Mbps for 1080p at 60 FPS. We also require less than 80ms latency from an NVIDIA data centre. However, for the best experience, we recommend less than 40ms.

Please read this knowledge-base article on how to test your network.

If your home internet here in Perth isn’t up to the task, check your address using our address checker to see if Superfast Fixed Wireless is available at your home.
