From September 2025, nbn® is rolling out major speed upgrades - giving thousands of homes across Perth faster access to the internet, for free.

While increased capacity is great news and will benefit all eligible customers, this change will especially benefit households with multiple users simultaneously engaged in activities like streaming, video calling, downloading, and gaming.

What’s changing?

nbn is lifting the speed limits on a bunch of existing plans. If you’re on an eligible plan and connection type, you’ll automatically get upgraded - no strings, no extra cost.

Here’s what’s changing:

• Family 100/20 Mbps → 500/50 Mbps
• Elite 250/25 Mbps → 750/50 Mbps
• Prime 1000/50 Mbps → 1000/100 Mbps

These are the new wholesale speed tiers from nbn, and may differ from real-world typical evening speeds, which will be displayed on our website.

Who’s eligible?

You’ll need to be connected via Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) or Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) to be eligible for the upgrade.

If you’re on Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), hang tight - your upgrade will come later as part of nbn’s fibre rollout. You can learn more about the nbn fibre upgrade program here.

Do I need to do anything?

• On the right connection + right plan? You’re all set. The upgrade will happen automatically from September, and we’ll be in touch to confirm the date ahead of time.
• On the right connection, but different plan? Get in touch and we’ll help you switch so you’re ready to level up.
• Not on FTTP or HFC? No upgrade just yet, but we’ll help you get there as soon as a fibre upgrade becomes available.

FAQs

I’m on the Pro+ (100/40) plan. Will I get a speed upgrade? If you’re on FTTP or HFC, we’ll automatically upgrade your speed to 500/50 Mbps. Lower price, faster speeds.

How does this affect business customers? Business nbn plans will also get the boost, with the same eligibility rules. We’ll make sure you’re covered.

Will I need to upgrade my router? To take full advantage of the speed boost, we recommend a high-performance router like the Amazon eero 7. If you’re unsure, our team can check your setup and let you know if you need an upgrade.
