Baldur’s Gate 3 is the talk of the town anywhere you look. It’s smashing records every day and, at the time of writing, ranks as the highest-rated PC game of 2023 on review aggregator Metacritic. Sufficed to say, it’s become quite a big deal within the gaming world. So, for the uninitiated, what is it?
Baldur’s Gate 3 is an official Dungeons & Dragons video game, recreating the rules of the fifth edition in video game form as a turn-based RPG. It takes players through an adventure (or a ‘campaign’) centred around mind-eating illithids (squid monsters) and their infectious tadpoles that will see the player traversing the world in desperate search of a cure. However, a game wouldn’t be topping charts worldwide if it only appealed to D&D players.

The game has captured the hearts and minds of gamers across the globe because of its undeniable polish, instant charm, and captivating world and characters. The scope of the game, offering hundreds of hours of content across a massive and in-depth world, is leaving many astonished.
More than that, the game is a breath of fresh air for many who were losing hope for big-budget titles in the gaming industry. This game is a shining example of Early Access done right; they put the early stages of the game in the hands of the public for years and took all our feedback to refine it into the best game it could be.
What a game it is, too. It’s not just the talk of the town; it’s the talk of the office here at Pentanet, which is why we just had to share it with you. Everyone’s journey is so different that they each have their own version of the story to tell, and that’s part of what makes it so unique. With its easy-to-grasp controls and the easily approachable rules of D&D fifth edition, it’s bringing in Pentanet family members who’ve never been into games and hooks them instantly.

I can’t recommend Baldur’s Gate 3 enough, not just because it’s a good game, which it is, but because it means something. Baldur’s Gate 3 proves that the artistic medium of gaming is alive and well, even within the massive budget titles intended for mass market appeal.
Creator Larian Studios has stated that they fully intend to stay independent to maintain total control of their creative vision, and I cannot imagine better news for gamers everywhere. Whether or not you consider yourself a gamer, I recommend trying Baldur’s Gate 3. However you choose to play it, you’ll come out with a story all your own, and that’s something exceptional.
